The Good and the Bad
The first few months of your baby’s life are probably equally terrifying and exciting. You get to see your little one grow from a tiny bundle of joy who sleeps all day to a healthy, happy, and active little munchkin who just can’t wait to get out there and explore the world! You might not notice this at first, but it’s staggering how fast they develop! Time will play its tricks on you: one moment you’re rocking them to sleep and the next they’re old enough to upgrade from a baby crib to a proper big bed. You’ll look back and wonder where all the time went. Truth is: if you’re doing parenting the right way, there shouldn’t be too many surprises or adventures. Sure, milestones, like their first steps, are super important, but they always seem to happen too quickly. During the first 6 months, all they do is sleep and eat. And the days seem to just blend together in a montage of feeding, changing diapers, and putting your baby to sleep. However, just because this time is largely uneventful, it doesn’t mean it’s peaceful. It will both exhaust you and put you under pressure like nothing else! The moment you think you have 5 minutes to yourself, the baby will start screaming. Don’t lose hope though, it won’t last forever!
It might not seem like a lot, but when you have to care for a young baby, every minute counts. So it might be worth investing in things that save you time. For example, if you’re a fan of cooking, you could benefit a lot from a slow cooker. All you have to do is chuck all the ingredients in it in the morning and you get to enjoy a healthy, filling meal by dinnertime. If you really want to get the most bang for your buck, go for one that’s a bit roomier and enjoy the leftovers for lunch the next day! As an added bonus, slow cooking any dish makes your house smell amazing all day. If you feel like you never get enough time to eat, get a blender and start making creamy soups. You can pack them full of veggies, blend them up and drink them super quickly; no need to spend 30 minutes cutting up veggies for a salad. If you have pets, consider getting an automatic vacuum cleaner to help keep your floors spotless and lint-free. Expect to go through wet wipes like there’s no tomorrow! They have many uses: from mopping up spills to wiping down the kitchen table to cleaning your baby and even taking off your makeup. The best baby wipes are ones that are gentle enough to not irritate your baby’s sensitive skin, but powerful enough to eviscerate any mess. No matter your parenting style, don’t make your life more difficult than it has to be!
